AI Self-checkout

Computer Vision for Self-checkouts

Edge Native Using a Single Camera

With Neonode's AI self-checkout solution – unveiled at EuroShop 2026 – we position self-checkout systems firmly at the center of the retail AI revolution. With device-native computer vision that runs on virtually any hardware using a single camera, we provide advanced loss prevention, age check and dynamic advertising – all running on your device.

Our loss prevention functionality helps retailers stay on top of missed scans, whether accidental or intentional, with friendly nudges and timely alerts. In the background, our system keeps track of pertinent real-time insights, such as the customer's age for age verification and dynamic advertising purposes. Moreover, it records detailed analytics, including eye gaze information for UX analysis and advertising analytics – such as how many people looked at an ad and for how long.

Select the feature sets you need and easily deploy them on existing hardware independent of camera type, camera position and operating environments. Neonode's AI Self-checkout brings the future of retail AI to the present.

Our promise: Reaffirming self-checkout as the future of retail

Self-checkout has expanded rapidly: over 10,000 retailers worldwide have installed SCO systems to cut labor costs and reduce lines, and Capital One Shopping Research projects that figure will reach 24,000 by 2030. Adoption is already widespread, with market penetration at about 96% in U.S. grocery stores – but theft remains a major obstacle to self-checkout dominance.

Even though 73% of consumers prefer self-checkout, shrink is reportedly four times higher than at staffed lanes, pushing retailers to reconsider further rollout once theft and maintenance outweigh labor savings – especially as anti-theft restrictions frustrate customers. The AI revolution offers a path forward, and Neonode’s MultiSensing computer vision platform uses synthetic data, anonymized capture, and high efficiency to deliver advanced features that run on virtually any system using only a single camera.
